About Us

Gang Free North Carolina is a gang prevention, intervention, suppression and policy organization committed to developing, promoting and sustaining state-wide strategies, policies and laws that will reduce criminal gangs and the associated criminal activity to include injury and death. Most importantly, a Gang Free North Carolina will aid and assist North Carolinians in every capacity in strategies and recommended programs to reduce gangs and gang violence.

Gangs and their criminal activity plague cities, towns and counties across North Carolina each and every day. The North Carolina Governors Crime Commission reported in 2004 that there were 387 and 8517 gang members aged as young as 8 years old. The denial and failure to address gangs and gang violence will only lead to increased violence and more gangs in our communities while undermining each North Carolinian’s commitment to law enforcement, health care, education, commerce and the family.

Accordingly, Gang Free North Carolina commits to the following objectives:

  • Encouraging all citizens of North Carolina to strive for gang-free homes, neighborhoods, schools, workplaces and communities.
  • Advocating gang prevention based education in our schools and teaching our children positive alternatives gangs.
  • Educating citizens, community leaders about the dangers of gangs the important role of gang-free programs.
  • Supporting all local, state and federal law enforcement and corrections in gang prevention, intervention, suppression and reentry efforts.
  • Promoting cooperation between local state and national leaders to develop and implement polices and laws that will reduce gangs and gang violence.
  • Improving and fostering global communication between those that are impacted by gangs and gang members at the local, state and federal levels. This would include but not limited to faith based groups, education professionals, athletic coaches, social workers, health care providers, attorneys, media, governmental leaders, researchers as well as parents or guardians to advance our knowledge of gangs and gang violence.
  • Sharing our knowledge, resources and experience with others working to prevent or eliminate gangs and strive for a Gang Free North Carolina.
